Made famous by Ansel Adams, this Yosemite view has been iconic since 1933, but I’d never seen it feel like this.
Winter storms had battered the valley for weeks. Flooding shut the park down, and the crowds disappeared. I was there anyway, camping in the snow, alone in a Yosemite that felt untouched.
Fog pooled and drifted through the valley like a slow river. Above it, the moon laid down a faint, steady glow, while thick clouds turned the entire sky into a giant softbox. No drama. No spectacle. Just quiet, controlled light and a landscape breathing.
It was pure magic.
